Evaluation of DP so far -
Design Principles has been so valuable, I know that a lot of courses don't get the opportunity for some reason to learn the fundamentals of graphic design which is a bit mad as it is so important for development and learning about the practice.
From looking at Typography it really helped develop my confidence and interest in the skill, and made me realise that it is definitely not boring, theres so much to it that it could never be boring and the actual generation of a type face is what you make it. It was interesting to learn the history and reasonings for fonts today.
Type and grid was an eye opener for me as before I had no idea that layout were based on a grid system. It was really useful to actually break the newspaper down and find its grid system, by doing that it made it a lot clearer to understand. It was also good to learn how to make decent layout designs that are accurate and to scale .
Colour Theory is something that I had touched upon on other courses but not in as much detail as we did. the practicle sense of actually looking at the way colour react to one and other there and then was really useful and interesting to see.
Doing the publication for the book fair was really enjoyable it was an interesting way to generate an idea for the booklet as we all started off with the same concept the letter 'a' but then through experimentation things completely changed and everyones was so different but still with this a subliminal link to the letter A. It was also a great oppertunity to go screen print which is something I really enjoy doing. The book fair day was also a success since I supposedly sold out of mine since they weren't in the box or they got lost.. either one!
Everything that we have learnt so far in Dp has been really useful and been applied to other practical parts of the course.
