GOOD IS - LOOKING UP

Good is - Looking up :

From doing a little bit of research into each of my favourite 'goods' I have decided to do my project on good is - Looking up. I chose this as from the the 3 goods I was researching into, as I found this the most interesting topic, although I do love bulldogs and have a good source for research I didnt want to do my project on bulldogs as I want to set myself more of a challenge by having a more conceptual topic, sucha as looking up.

Things you see when you look up -

Above is a list of things you may see when you look up. It was interesting to write down and think about what you can see when you look in a different direction. The list didn't take that long to write which shows me it is just a starting point and there a many, many more things to see when you look up.

Reason why you should look up -

Reasons NOT to look up -

10 Reasons why Looking Up is good :

  1. Looking Up brightens your mood. It is A positive experience due to a number of things such as, a sunny day, or seeing a plane  in the sky which might remind you of holiday or evoke a memory.
  2. Looking Up gives you A different perspective. You notice things you wouldn't normally see if you were looking at your feet.
  3. Inspires you to look things up, research and learn. For example you could be walking around one day and see an impressive building and want to know more about it, or you might see a bird and want to know what it is etc.
  4. Teaches you to look at things rather than just take the world at face value.
  5. Looking up has been scientifically proven as something humans do when they are in thought. It is a way of thinking and generating idea in the brain.
  6. Looking Up takes you on an unexpected journey, you may take a different route then normal as you are being ruled by what looks interesting above eye level rather then the pratical a - b route.
  7. Religious people see looking up as an act of comfort and communication with their God.
  8. It makes you realise there is more to the world then normal day to day life. you might look up at a night sky and realise there is way more out there.
  9. It is good to Look Up for a number of health reasons such as putting in contact lences, or sneezing, it helps to look up at a bright light when you need to sneeze. Looking up also is good for people who suffer with vertigo or are afraid of heights looking up eases the fear.
  10. Looking Up takes you out of a crowded, busy, stressful situation.
  11. You may discover hidden beauties of the City / environment.
  12. Makes you more observant in life.

Crit Feedback :

I got good feedback for my choice of 'What is Good', I managed to sell Looking Up as a good thing to the group and got general feed back that it is something you don't really do in day to day life but they could see the benefit of why it is good and that it is an interesting concept and way of changing perspective of the way you see things. We spoke about how to make people look up for example throwing things or placing things that make you look up. We also spoke about how it is a game when you are younger (or not) to make each other look up and how it is easy to trick someone by just saying look at that look up, and they will look up.

5 Things to Look at further :

- How to make people look up.
- What situations people look up in.
- Where to look up.
- How many people look up.
- What exactly can you find when you look up.
- Who would be interested in looking up.

5 Skills I want to improve :

- Clarity of  concept, I want to be able to clearly state my concept.
- Presentation of work, in terms of actual presentation as in boards and presentation as in final work.
- Time Management.
- Adobe skills, more precisely learn how to be able to mock work up successfully.
- Print skills
- Being environmentaly aware of surroundings and contexts, so that my contexts are accurate.
- Improve craft and finish of products.

5 Ways to improve the above skills :

- Use peers and blog to make sure my concept is clear, and stays clear.
- Develop my photography skills so work can be photographed and captured better.
- Use lists and time tables for time management.
- Experiment with print process.
- Look around / look on the internet for things in the environment and how they work e.g. billboards.
